Worth the hype?
On MLK weekend, we used the 3 days off to go for a run, do a sip & paint, and try out the ice skating rink under the BK bridge!
The Brooklyn Bridge – famous worldwide and especially for tourists. Last year the city made a new ice rink that sits right under the bridge on the Williamsburg side and was hyped all over social media. Last year we played it safe and went to the Central Park Wollman rink – spacious, in Central Park and less touristy than Bryant park or Rockefeller center rinks.
Now enter the Brooklyn bridge Roebling rink:

As you can tell, it’s rather small but right under the bridge (great if it rains!) and has cute string lights.
We opted for a 4pm slot but the rink was closed until 5:30pm due to an earlier snow storm in the day. Once 5pm hit, we were in line, had the waivers signed, and immediately got to go inside the pop up heated tent where they hand out rental skates (for a fee) and have limited lockers, which we didn’t use but instead just used the shoe boxes they provided under the benches. There are also portable bathrooms containers right outside of the tent.

The rink quickly got packed and I felt like it was 80% tourists – most of them who did not know how to skate.
As someone who has ice skated all her life, it was fun in the beginning but at some point got annoying since the rink was small and most people were struggling holding on the sides, or very slowly walk-skating and holding us up from going fast.
We still had a great time and if you’re visiting and want a special location or date night, this is fun! If you have more time or are local, I would recommend the Wollman rink in Central Park over this rink.
Now we can say been there – done that!
