Life of a millennial living in the worlds greatest city

Met Rooftop

An evening at the Met

New York is home of many museums, one better than the next and there’s no shortage of art collections to see and immersive installations to experience. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a classic go-to on anybody’s New York bucket list. But did you know it has the best view over the city, completed with outdoor art and a glass of wine in hand? It really doesn’t get any better than that.

Last weekend, we tapped into our artsy cultural side and decided to go to the Met. Not that we went for a specific gallery or exhibition – although we happily realized that the new Rockefeller Wing had opened, and the Louis Vuitton funded exhibition “Superfine” was still on – but we went first and foremost for the The Roof Garden!

Our day started out by people watching on the Met stairs, followed by a speedy entrance process, pay-what-you-wish tickets as NY residents, and off we went right into the Egyptian exhibition that is close to the main entrance and amazing. After perusing, taking a detour to find restrooms which was quite the treck through different levels and exhibitions, we miraculously ended up in the new Rockefeller Wing featuring the current Oceania exhibition which worked out great! Continuing from there, we stumbled into the Superfine – Tailoring Black Style exhibition which was dark lit, moody, and had a lot of fashion on display in a unique setting for a classic museum. We then made it to the only elevator that takes you to the roof, just to realize there was a huuuge line. Discouraged, but nonetheless, we stood in line since this is what we came for. After just 15min we made it up and the weather was grand, the wine was flowing and the view was impeccable with the nearing sunset we happened to catch. Definitely a must-see if you want to impress your date, a visitor, or just want a unique view of the city yourself!

The Roof Garden will be closing mid-October for a 5 year hiatus and renovation so if you haven’t been you should def go ASAP. Highly recommend for your next New York City adventure!
